Ancestor Fan Chart — five generations, thirty-one names, one sheet

You at the centre, your parents in the first ring, then four grandparents, then eight, then sixteen. Up to five generations — thirty-one people, each with their name, their years and the place they came from — set out in the wedges of a fan on one poster. A gift for a grandmother, or for a family that has started asking who great-grandfather’s father was. We ask for each person by their place in the family: “your father’s mother’s father”, “your mother’s mother”. Only your own name and your parents’ are required. Leave anyone you do not know empty and they stay on the poster as a faint wedge with no words: a family tree reads well without pretending to know everything. There are three layouts: the half fan (you at the bottom centre, your father’s side on the left, your mother’s on the right), a full-circle medallion (your father’s side above, your mother’s below), and a classic chart of boxes and lines for families with long names. Every name is set to fit its own wedge and none of them is upside down; a long name is first broken onto two lines and only then, if it must be, shortened with an ellipsis. What the preview shows is what is printed. Three sizes (30 × 40, 50 × 70, 70 × 100 cm) and eleven palettes, on matte poster stock, foam board or heavy card. For five generations we suggest 50 × 70 or 70 × 100.

The drawing is the designer's; the colour and the logo are yours. What you see above is what we print.
